Metatarsalgia is simply intense pain or inflammation in the ball of your foot. This condition is especially prevalent in physically active adults , as it may be caused by repeat impact on the ball of the foot, while they are running or jumping.
Some symptoms you may experience from this condition can include sharp pain or dull ache behind the toes on the ball of the foot. Pain that gets worse when you walk, jog or run. Pain that improves when you rest and numbness or pain in the toes. Metatarsalgia is caused by several factors including improper foot alignment, Hammertoes, Excessive weight and Morton's Neuroma .
Often pain in the foot can be healed with a day or two of rest, some ice and over the counter pain medication. However, if your pain is severe or ongoing, it may be time to see a podiatrist. Other treatment options include modification of footwear or insoles, use of metatarsal pads and arch supports.
